The colour pigment
A combination of plant-based organic red pigments and alizarin derived from madder (Rubia tinctorum). In ancient Egypt, the famous beauty Cleopatra used madder on her lips to enhance her natural charms. Fabrics dyed with this pigment have been found in Tutankhamun's tomb, among the ruins of Pompeii and in ancient Corinth.
Alizarin is known for its extraordinary biological properties.
