What makes good natural make-up?

At GreenBeautyShop, good natural make-up is made from pure and nourishing ingredients such as certified organic plant oils, waxes and extracts, and pure minerals. It contains no harmful ingredients such as silicones, mineral oils and microplastics, nor any other undesirable substances often found in conventional make-up and even in products marketed as ‘natural’.

Make-up that’s good for your skin

Make-up is applied directly to the skin and is often used daily. Its formulation affects how healthy your skin looks and feels, how sensitive your skin reacts, and how comfortable the make-up feels throughout the day.

For GreenBeautyShop, good natural make-up therefore means that it is not only beautiful to look at, but also that it supports the skin, evens out the complexion and gives it a healthy glow, without blocking the pores or upsetting the skin’s balance. So that your skin can breathe, feels comfortable and has a natural look without a heavy or artificial effect.

That is why our make-up collection features only natural and organic make-up that meets our standards for formulation, skin feel and quality. We do not include products that do not meet these criteria.

Which ingredients would you prefer to avoid in make-up?

Many conventional make-up products, and even those marketed as ‘natural’, often contain undesirable ingredients that, in our opinion, have no place in a healthy, natural make-up routine, especially when used daily on the skin. These include silicones, mineral oils, microplastics, PEGs, film-forming agents, synthetic fragrances and colourants, PFAS, parabens and other preservatives, talc of dubious origin, and certain forms of alcohol.

Below, we explain the most common undesirable ingredients in more detail. These can be burdensome or even harmful to the skin and/or the environment.

Silicones

These are used to make make-up apply smoothly and create a smooth skin feel, but they form a sealing layer on the skin that can disrupt the skin’s natural balance.

Mineral oils

These can seal the skin and do not actively contribute to skin care, making them less suitable for a natural make-up routine.

Microplastics

Synthetic particles that provide texture, adhesion and a smoothing effect, but we avoid these due to their harmful impact on the environment and skin.

PEGs (emulsifiers)

Used to blend ingredients and improve texture. We avoid PEGs due to their synthetic origin, as they can make the skin more permeable to other substances, and because of potential residual traces of ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane from the manufacturing process.

Film-formers (such as acrylates and copolymers)

Are used to make make-up waterproof, long-lasting and smudge-proof by forming a film layer on the skin or eyelashes. We avoid these substances because they can seal the skin and are often synthetic and difficult to break down.

Synthetic fragrances and colourants

Are added for scent and colour, but can cause irritation or reactions on sensitive skin and do not contribute to the product’s effectiveness.

PFAS

Are used to make make-up water- and smudge-resistant and to ensure a long-lasting effect. We avoid these due to their persistence in the environment and the fact that they are difficult to break down.

Parabens and other preservatives

Are used to preserve products, but can be irritating to sensitive skin.

Alcohol (such as alcohol denat.)

Can make make-up light and quick-drying, but with frequent use can dry out the skin and disrupt the skin barrier.

Nanoparticles (such as titanium dioxide)

Are used for coverage and UV protection, for example in foundations and powders. We avoid the use of nanoparticles where possible due to concerns regarding absorption into the skin and inhalation with powdered products.

Contamination in colour pigments

Traces of heavy metals may be present in some colour pigments, depending on the source and quality. We choose brands that handle this responsibly and work with pure, controlled pigments.

Talc from impure sources

Used in make-up for texture, absorption and a matte finish. We avoid products containing low-quality talc due to potential contamination with undesirable substances.

Bismuth oxychloride

Used in some mineral make-up for shine and coverage, but can cause itching or irritation on sensitive skin. That is why we avoid this ingredient in our selection.

Within our selection, the focus is on make-up without these ingredients, with an emphasis on a formulation that is as skin-friendly as possible and a pleasant result on the skin.
