The shea fruit tree grows to a height of around 20 metres and is found only in the wild on the West African savannahs. For thousands of years, the kernels have been crushed into an extremely nutrient-rich nut fat or butter packed with vitamins, minerals, proteins and a unique composition of essential fatty acids. Unrefined shea butter possesses the greatest number of healing and moisturising properties, as well as the highest percentage of active ingredients of all butters and oils. Shea butter is exceptionally nourishing, moisturising and soothing for the skin and hair. It has anti-inflammatory properties, promotes the healing process and restores the skin barrier, encourages cell renewal and elasticity, and protects against extreme weather conditions and UV radiation. Thanks to the economic success of these women’s cooperatives, this unique wild argan forest can be protected from encroaching intensive agriculture, ensuring that this natural treasure is preserved for the future.
