The colour pigment
Achiote - Bixa orellana - is called Wantura in Quechua and is sacred to the peoples of the Amazon. It is known as the "eternal bush" that lines the path to heaven and is used for body paint and dyeing wickerwork.
The plant is used to reduce oxidative stress and is in the traditional Mexican drink Tascalate.
