    What does contour make-up do for your face?

     
    Contouring was once the secret weapon of professional make-up artists to bring out a model's assets for a show or photo shoot.
     
    But you too can model your face and completely shape and sculpt it to your liking!
     
    Do you think your chin is not tight enough, or would you prefer more pronounced cheekbones? You can't think of anything crazy, or you can get it done with some contouring.
     

    How contouring works

     
    Contouring your face actually works quite simply, the principle boils down to:
     
    - You use a dark colour to correct shapes and apply shadows.
     
    - You use a special shiny highlighter to apply highlights.
     
    - You can also optionally use dark and light 'in-between' colours to add extra dimension or nuance, always keeping in mind that dark colours 'hide' and light colours 'bring out'.
     

    Also useful to know

     
    When contouring, it does come in handy to apply everything in the right way and in the right order:
     
    - If you use concealer and or foundation, apply it first. 
     
    - Apply contour. Use a dark contour bronzer (or a dark foundation) on contours where you need extra shadow or shape correction. Use an angled sculpt brush or a powder puff to do this.
     
    - Then apply a light bronzer and or blush. Last to apply is usually the highlighter.
     
    - For highlighting, use a fluffy blending brush. Highlight the plus points of your face and or highlight the shapes on your face that you want to emphasise.
     
    Tip: Make sure to keep your look vibrant, so always apply a very subtle touch of light bronzer (or blush) along your hairline, on your chin, on your cheekbone and possibly some on the bridge of your nose. Not using eye shadow? Then also apply some shimmering bronzer under the brow arch for a radiant natural look!
