    Natural Eco Sponges

Natural Intimacy's natural sponges are harvested with the utmost respect for nature and the environment. Sponges grow back when they are pruned, and are therefore a 'renewable product'.

Responsible pruning extends the life of a natural sponge.
Unpruned sponges do not live more than 10 years, but if trained divers prune the sponge expertly so that the roots remain undamaged, the sponge can renew itself and live longer!

A natural sponge looks like a plant but is in fact a simple, very primitive multicellular animal; hence the nickname sponge. Sponges live in seas and oceans, but there are also freshwater sponges. They attach themselves to the sea floor and capture their food by filtering water through the natural flow of the sea through their thousands of tiny pores. Sponges have no organs, muscles or nerves: like a plant, they cannot think or feel pain.

The sea sponge has long been used for cleaning, bathing, applying oil to the skin and as a menstrual tampon.
When wet, natural sponges become silky soft, and the pores are clearly visible. When they dry, they become hard and durable. Natural sponges can be used intensively for months.
