Makanai - the story
Makanai was created thanks to women working in the traditional Japanese gold leaf craft in Kanazawa. They discovered that even the older women had surprisingly soft and beautiful hands that looked years younger than their faces, as a result of dipping their hands in a natural fermented paste - which was used to make washi paper to put between sheets of gold leaf. Moreover, their hands were constantly touching gold!
These women started making their own skin care products with the materials they had available. As a result, their skin became more radiant and beautiful.
From generation to generation, this secret knowledge was passed from mother to daughter, and over a hundred years later, the Makanai brand was born in 2004.
