The roots of the madder - Rubia tinctorum - have been used throughout the Mediterranean since the second millennium BC for their strong colouring power and incredible healing properties.

This pigment was used during an ancestral beauty ritual by queens and empresses throughout the centuries to dye their cheeks and lips all shades of red.
